You can use abilities which are unlocked by obtaining pickups scattered throughout the level to kill the monsters called 'Piranhas' in the level, or use basic combat for the same. You can Explore the level to find the portal in the scene to reach the next level. As you kill more Piranhas, you receive more XP and reach higher progression levels.

Sky of Tides is an interactive sci-fi fantasy narrative game. Explore the world while your choices shape your character. You play Rin, a cosmic farmgirl, working on her family's rytail farm under the thumb of her dastardly Grandpa. Rin's father has gone missing and Rin wants nothing more than to find him and run away from home. That's when Nikki Extremis comes crashing into her life (quite literally, in a stolen car) giving Rin the opportunity to escape and catapulting her on a planetoid wide adventure where she will work to stop her nation's food shortage and defend against war threatened by the Syndicate, a one-world government plaguing her planetoid home. ______________________ A calamity has fractured the world of Numen into nine floating planetoids. Diverse nations now hover isolated from each other in the sky, while the ocean hovers above them all, enveloping the broken planet, which hangs by a thread. Two rival powers vie for control—the Syndicate through their monopoly on a little understood but powerful technology that relies on mysterious Corron minerals that they control; and the Sovereign, which favors a return to the now nearly lost ways of the ancients outlined in the banned Numen Tomes.

This procedural narrative was created in fall 2021 at a time of decreasing days of sunlight in a time of uncertainty during Covid-19 case spikes and isolation. An autobiographical story of life during the pandemic, Sleeping Through The Pandemic was created in a game engine as a top-down 2dimensional narrative alternating between apartment environments and text inter-titles. The story is rendered in 8bit graphics of bedrooms, desks, refrigerators, stoves, toilets, showers, couches, books, computers...the "stuff" surrounding us in everyday life. The story presents a digitally-mediated recreation of my physical environment, interspersed with a personal narrative that complements and contrasts with the quotidian apartment living. Sleeping Through the Pandemic is created and scripted in PuzzleScript, an open source HTML5 game engine for creating linear puzzle games. Constructing a personal narrative is not a typical use case for this game engine, which is designed around creating sliding block-based puzzle games in the tradition of the 1980s japanese puzzle game Sokoban. Rather, it is a 'hack' of the engine, one whose affordances allow for constructing pixel-based environments, sound design, and narrative text. All art was created in 5x5 pixel grids, drawn and laid out with ASCII text. Interaction and movement was scripted in the PuzzleScript Domain Specific Language. The ghostly cat claims that re-opening the old spirit bathhouse on the mountain is the best way to solve the town's spirit problem, letting you focus more on finishing your book. Make friends with the locals and become inspired to write your book from a variety of activities including: fishing, bug catching, eating, karaoke, drinking, digging for treasure, and soaking in the hot springs. Discover mischievous spirits by chatting with the townsfolk and solving their troubles. Renovate the bathhouse and manage the visiting spirits who will pay you based on their bathing experience. Every session, MonRiverGames has a public pitch day in which it invites ideas from the public to be presented and voted on by members of the studio. The idea selected in the Fall 2022 student session was "What if our cats were spies?", pitched by WVU student Tessla Muir. The students, some new to game design and development, each created their own unique level as part of this broad concept. Then, they worked together to plan out how the game's overarching story and maintain some consistency within the idea. Through playtesting at local events, they've worked on making the experience better and will continue to do so through the Spring 2023 session. This method of working, in which an overarching idea is selected and members of the studio each plan a unique level that falls within the idea, has been an excellent way for the student team to bond and learn by doing.
